In January, Giorgos Giakoumakis left Celtic and Ange Postecoglou to join Atlanta United in Major League Soccer (MLS).

Since his move across the Atlantic, the Greek striker has made a significant impact by scoring five goals in his first eight appearances. However, Atlanta United’s recent form has been less than impressive.

Over their last seven matches, Atlanta has managed to secure a win in only one. This dismal run of form is clearly a disappointment for any team. In a recent interview with Sports News World, Giakoumakis didn’t shy away from expressing his dissatisfaction, even directing a veiled criticism towards his teammates.

He remarked, “The leader can be in the dressing room, but the real leader for me is on the field. If you’re talking too much in here and then you go out and you don’t show anything, then you are not a leader.”

It seems like this comment may be targeted at a specific teammate.

Evidently, Giakoumakis is frustrated with his team’s current form and seems to feel that there are players in the Atlanta dressing room who aren’t living up to their roles. Such comments from a player can be a cause of concern for any team.

Giakoumakis wasn’t shy during his time at Celtic and once caused a stir by declaring Celtic would be champions when they were still in a title race last season.

At the age of 28, Giakoumakis appears to be facing some challenges in his new American journey. It will certainly be interesting to watch how he navigates this situation moving forward.”
