Bobby Madden has responded to Kris Boyd’s insistence on a Ross County penalty following a close call involving Joe Hart and Simon Murray at Celtic Park.

The erstwhile referee turned to social media to engage his followers in a discussion about the contentious incident during Celtic’s triumphant 4-2 victory against Ross County in their Premiership season opener in Glasgow.

In a rare moment of uncertainty, Joe Hart struggled to secure the ball on his chest as Murray made a dash to intercept the ball in the first half. Hart endeavoured to regain possession but could not connect with the forward, who maintained his balance before ultimately going to the ground.

However, Madden succinctly expressed his thoughts on Instagram: “And now we have pundits wanting a penalty because he ‘nearly fouled him’…give me strength.

The claim that it was a penalty is beyond the pale, and Kris Boyd’s attempt to spearhead this narrative as some form of Celtic let-off is typical of his approach.

It was a winning start to the Scottish Premiership season for Celtic. under the renewed leadership of Brendan Rodgers, the bhoys showcased their championship mettle with a resounding 4-2 victory over Ross County.

David Turnbull, who had been somewhat sidelined under previous management, emerged as the man of the match. The attacking midfielder scored twice and assisted Kyogo Furuhashi, propelling Celtic to a commanding 3-0 lead by half-time.

Despite Ross County’s spirited start and a goal from Jordan White, Celtic’s resolve remained unbroken. Matt O’Riley, with a thunderous strike, restored the three-goal cushion, ensuring the win.

Ross County scored a second goal, but it was too little, too late. The day belonged to Celtic, with Turnbull’s performance and the team’s overall resilience underlining their readiness for the new season’s challenges. There is plenty to improve on.

  1. “In a rare moment of uncertainty…”

Rare??? It’s as if you’ve never seen him play before! Though he’s been great for us he has ALWAYS been a bit of a major bombscare. We definitely will need a new keeper.

    • Aye, he really seems to have lost his confidence.
Think he deserves a chance to settle again but we do need to sign a good Scottish keeper to help meet the home-grown quota. Is there a good enough one out there though?

  2. Did we expect anything else from this one sided pundit, he is an embarrassment to SKY sports, he would be better moving to rangers tv but I think even honest rangers fans would turn against him and his biased comments.
