Former Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has claimed that the Hoops’ so-called arduous periods this season will be forgotten about come May should they succeed in the title race.

At the minute, things are as tight as ever at the top of the table, the Celts leading their closest rivals Rangers on goals scored. They did previously hold a seven-point lead, but that has diminished over the past few months.

What matters most, however, is that the champions still lead the pack midway through February. There are still two league Glasgow Derbies left between now and the end of the season which could prove pivotal.

In said fixture, Celtic has been flawless since Brendan Rodgers returned to the club, winning two out of two clashes with their city rivals. Should such a record be intact come the end of the campaign, the title will in all likelihood be heading to Parkhead.

If this happens, the champions’ tough times this season will be forgotten, claims Strachan: “If Celtic win the league at the end of the season,  no one will remember this period”, he said (SunSport).

“The only thing that matters if you are Celtic or Rangers is winning the league title.

“That’s the reality of Scottish football.”
