The Green Brigade have hit back at the club for calling them out over their stance and message at the Kilmarnock game, supporting the Palestinian cause.

The group have made it clear they will continue to be vocal and use football as a vehicle to stand up for what they believe is right.

The Green Brigade make it clear that the club have clearly dabbled in politics, taking sides in conflicts and helping those who are displaced by war.

They talk about ‘match the fine for Palestine’ where the Green Brigade amassed an incredible amount of money in the face of a fine from UEFA over the waving of the Palestine flag during a game against Israeli opposition.

The group asking every single Celtic fan to wave a Palestine flag during the Atletico game is a move that won’t be welcomed by the club.

It will also split the support with many believing that politics as grave as this should not be on the terraces. It’s an incredibly evocative issue.

  1. Lawwell & his Board are just frightened of UK / Scottish Government taking a look at them…I notice no mention of theRangers taking part in Armed Forces Day last wk!! Ok if it suites UK/ Scottish Government but big Oops if it goes against the Right-Wing Cabal !

  2. I’ve seen some guff takes on this but Robert McLaughlin’s shows incredible mental gymnastic agility for someone who is obviously a nine-year-old. Equating Armed Forces Day, tacky as it was by Ibokes’ constant cravenness to appeal to the lowest common denominator, to a banner depicting the skeletal face of death wrapped in a Palestinian flag just as Hamas inflicted an appalling atrocity upon innocent people is what happens when you take sides on a complex issue along the line of whatever football team you support. Here’s the rub: there will be many Celtic season ticket holders – probably even Green Brigade members – who support Israel’s right to exist and if that means the continual bombardment and imprisoning of ordinary Palestinians it won’t cause them a moment’s discomfort. There will be many Rangers fans who support freedom and statehood for Palestine.

People are being slaughtered, having been caught in the crossfire of an essentially sectarian issue dating back hundreds of years, embedded with nuance and complexity, but a bunch of intellectual pygmies whose politics never evolved beyond the student union and who’ve never risked a fingernail raised a banner at Celtic Park and think they’re doing something other than playing ‘I-Am-The-Main-Character’. The Green Brigade have rapidly become the embarrassing uncle at a wedding, who drinks too much and interrupts the groom’s speech to talk about their favourite conspiracy theories of the week. They’re every bit as much of a joke as the repressedly homoerotic squaddie Govan love-in last week.

  3. Celtic’s christian heritage is absolutely ashamed of Green Brigade endorsement of appalling and hideous terrorism.
    Shame on you!
