CELTIC WOMEN were cruelly denied the SWPL title on the final day of the season in the final minutes of the season over at Ibrox.

Winning 2-0 at Celtic Park against Hearts going into the final minutes, Celtic had one hand on the trophy as Glasgow City and Rangers were sitting at 0-0.

It would be in added time Glasgow City would get their goal and take the title away from Fran Alonso’s side in the cruellest of fashion.

On a day when the Celtic fans set a new SWPL attendance record (15,822), the day deserved so much better.

The Ghirls gave everything this campaign and have been so unlucky.

As the full time whistle went and the news filtered through to the players, the fans in attendance gave them a standing ovation for their efforts. The Celtic end cheered the ghirls off the pitch and showed their appreciation.

The team now need to regroup with a Scottish Cup Final date next week against Rangers.

The ghirls are defending their trophy at the national stadium against their bitter rivals.

You have to think Celtic Women are close to becoming champions of Scotland sooner than later. Today, it wasn’t to be.

  1. I said to my pals on Friday the huns would let GC win if they couldn’t catch Celtic. Conceding a 94th minute winner when they couldn’t catch Celtic on GD. Aye, nae bother.
I bet the huns cheered the goal and celebrated with GC.
