Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers handed midfielder Odin Thiago Holm his first league start in green and white against Aberdeen last Sunday. The Norwegian under-21 internationalist failed to put a foot wrong in his outing.

Holm ended up playing 53 minutes in the match. Before it, his gaffer made some comments about him that will excite supporters. Rodgers said (Sky Sports): “He’s a very gifted player with the ball. He’s mobile, he can create opportunities, and he’s settled in very very well. I predict a really bright future for Odin, he’s only 20. He can handle the ball, he can pick a pass, he can play forward, and he’s also tenacious.”

Holm is of an extremely tender age. He is one of the youngest members of Celtic’s first-team squad, but the manager clearly rates him.

Many supporters were excited to see him start this afternoon. The former Valerenga man’s performance was adequate. He will be keen to nail down the vacant third spot in the Hoops’ engine room, and his display today won’t have done him any harm.

  1. Yes Rodgers has told he has to get more involved his assist for ho goal was brilliant sending defender wrong way then reverse past great finish great goal set up on coaching field

    • Personally don’t think young Holm has started his Celtic career to badly at this stage.
As long as they can contribute towards the team then I really don’t know what else is to be expected for a player, who’s so young and just beginning the step up where the demands are so massive upon our expectations within our support generally?
Our current midfield 3 of Calmac, Oreily and Hatate if all are available, is no easy feat for anyone to take there positions, and certainly not the money available to buy the replacement either.
How much would it cost ourselves to actually replace any of them 3 with the same quality?
So still calls upon player’s to be developed to reduce that difference in quality?
Yet there remains a lack of patience within the support, when an instant solution is expected within the amount spent.
All without any form of guaranteed success involved either?
Turnbull has been the best at taking the opportunity within the SPFL, but still remains very questionable without the football as the defensive side of the game within Turnbull remains rank rotten imo, and this still after 4 years with the club?
In turn, it means Turnbull can get a CL squad place far easier, yet without the defensive side within his game, he offers us very little at that level still, and same could be possibly said in the bigger games within the SPFL also imo?
Would like to think Holm and potentially Paulo could offer more than that over the course of the season, and only time will give us the answer?
But some very good signs starting to develop within an attacking sense, which hopefully will grow further with greater confidence and understanding within the player’s around him?
With Rodgers offering him the guidance required, can’t see why Holm can’t become a very valuable player for ourselves, with plenty of time upon his side?
