Celtic star Matt O’Riley was called up to the Denmark senior team for the November international break.

It was the midfielder’s second inclusion in a senior national team squad, and he will relish the opportunity to play in games against Slovenia and Northern Ireland this month.

Ahead of the duo of matches, the 22-year-old spoke out about his own character and how he’s settled into the Danish senior team so far. He said (tipsbladet): “I’m a quiet type who doesn’t walk around and talk that much, but out on the training pitch I can show a bit more.

“It has been easy to join the team, and I have spoken to most of the players.”

O’Riley has excelled in the hoops this campaign, and it will be hoped he can transfer such form onto the international stage.

He may not play a similar role for Denmark as he does for Celtic, however. He said: “Before the San Marino game, Hjulmand showed me a bit about the tactics, so I know how to play if I get on the field. I’m sure we’ll have more conversations. I can play as 6s, 8s and 10s.”

Brendan Rodgers predominantly uses O’Riley as an advanced midfielder. He has played in the six and eight in the past, but not as much as he has in the ten.

It would be a good experience for the treble-winner to gain experience in different roles because such versatility will only be of benefit to Celtic.
