CRAIG GORDON hasn’t given up hope of dislodging Scott Bain from the number one position this season with the stopper eyeing a return to the first team after a lengthy lay off.

The goalkeeper hasn’t played a competitive game for Celtic since the defeat at Ibrox at the end of 2018 and while Bain took his place after the winter restart, Gordon has been unable to challenge properly for the position because of an injury which left him on the stands towards the end of last season.

The game at Ibrox which was the catalyst for Bain getting his spot saw the goalkeeper make a string of outstanding saves to keep the scoresheet down on the day but his distribution put the bhoys in all sorts of trouble.

On the comeback trail, Gordon believes he can give new Celtic manager Neil Lennon some food for thought.

“I need to try and get myself fit first and get 90 minutes under my belt. Once I’ve proven to myself and everyone here that I can complete 90 minutes then it gives me a shot to get in the team.” Gordon told the CelticView.

“It’s up to me to train as well as I can to force that to happen.

“I still want to play as many games as I possibly can in the season but that’ll be up to the manager.

“I’ll give it everything I possibly can to make sure it happens and then we’ll see where we go from there.”

Gordon has just one-year left on his current Celtic deal and unless things change it could be his last with the club.
