Popular journalist Stephen McGowan has described Celtic’s Champions League run as a ‘strange scenario’ considering the results haven’t been there.

Celtic have went toe to toe with every team in their group, putting some good performances but ultimately missing vital wins.

As we head into our final game at the Bernabeu, the realistic chance of getting a win in this competition is slim. Despite that, Celtic fans have been overall positive about the team and the manager. It’s not something you see a lot, especially at a club like Celtic. McGowan rightfully describes it as strange. Vitally, the journalist explains why that is the case.

“It’s a really strange scenario“ McGowan told PLZ Soccer.

“Despite this being a fairly disappointing campaign, there’s still positivity. I think that’s what Ange Postecoglou has really achieved.

“He’s managed to get some credit in the bank, he’s managed to win over the supporters. Take them along for the ride and make them think he knows how to make this team better”

Stephen is spot on with his assessment. It was much like the start of Ange’s rein as Celtic boss, when results weren’t there at first but we could see the team changing and progressing.

The Champions League games have been overall frustrating, but again we see real development and a philosophy to play football our own way.

Before we started this campaign, I was worried this team might be too naive to play their football. In the end, we went toe to toe with Real Madrid for around 50 minutes before succumbing to their superstars. The story of this CL campaign hasn’t been we couldn’t compete, it’s more a case of letting the big moments and chances pass us by.

Ange and his players should take confidence from the way they played, be better off for it and hopefully head back into Europe next season with renewed vigour and a willingness to get more points on the board.
