When Jack Hendry signed for Celtic from Dundee, under Brendan Rodgers in January 2018, he was a young, up and coming defender who was looking to make it at his boyhood club.

It would be fair to say though he didn’t get off to the greatest of starts and found himself on the end of his critics.

To be fair to Hendry though, he was thrown into the deep end a bit, with the Hoops defence having constant injury problems at that time.

Since then, he has gone out on loan to try and kick start his career again and now finds himself in Belgium with Oostende.

Speaking to Glasgow Live, Hendry has recently opened up on life playing for the Scottish Champions and a possible return to Celtic after the loan spell next season.

(Speaking about a return to Celtic) “I don’t know, I’m here for a year so there is still a bit of time before I would go back if I did go back. It’s something you’d have to ask the gaffer.

“Those things outwith my control but all I need to do is continue to play well and at a good level and if I do then those things will take care of itself. I need to perform on the pitch for those things to be talked about anyway.

“I suppose criticism is just part and parcel of football and when you play for such a big club like Celtic, you’re under the microscope constantly. It’s just about learning to deal with it and becoming a better person at the end of it.

“Obviously, there is a worldwide fan base at Celtic and they’ve got such high expectations and sometimes if you drop below that bar then you will come in the firing line.

“It’s just something you’ve got to deal with when you play for a club like Celtic and everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but from a personal point of view I’ve got no harsh feelings towards anyone and they’re allowed to voice their opinion.”

Hendry certainly seems to be thriving with Oostende so it will be interesting to see what happens, come the end of the season.

The Belgian side, do have an option to buy on the Scottish defender, of around £1.5 million but it is thought that fee is quite high for a club such as Oostende.

I’m sure many fans would be willing to give him that second chance to come back and make it at Celtic if he continues to do well but there is a long way to go this season, so we just need to wait and see how he gets on.
