Footballing legend Kenny Dalglish has delivered a heartfelt message to Celtic.
Dalglish returned to Celtic Park last night as the Hoops sealed a 3-0 victory over Aberdeen.
First-half goals from Benjamin Nygren, Camilo Duran, and Yang Hyun-jun maintained their perfect start to the Premiership campaign, with new arrivals Oliver Sorensen and Shim Mheuka being handed their debuts from the bench.
Aside from all the transfer noise, though, it was Dalglish’s return that resonated most with supporters. King Kenny played for just two clubs in his entire professional career: Celtic and Liverpool, along with appearances at three World Cups with the Scotland national team. The rest is history.
Just a few months ago, he revealed that he was undergoing cancer treatment. That made his appearance all the more special.
He has now posted some brilliant words about the Hoops after his return to Glasgow. He said (@kennethdalglish on X):
“I’d be nothing without Celtic FC. They gave me my first opportunity in the game and the greatest football education anyone could have wished for. I’ll be forever grateful to the club, the supporters and especially Jock Stein for believing in me and giving me that opportunity.”
He continued in a post underneath, saying: “It was wonderful to be back at Celtic Park and to receive such a warm welcome. Even better to see a 3–0 win! Thank you to everyone at Celtic for the reception. It was very much appreciated. YNWA.”
A brilliant tribute from an icon of not just Celtic, but of football.
Dalglish won nine pieces of silverware at the Hoops, and countless more with Liverpool. He has never forgotten his roots, and his appearance during halftime of Wednesday night’s game was felt by supporters of the green and white.
