Brendan Rodgers didn’t mince words when he shared his thoughts about Lagerbielke:

“He’s a very mature guy for someone who looks so young,” Rodgers remarked on Celtic TV.

“He’s up to speed in terms of games, he only arrived into the building within a couple of days and was thrown into a tough away game at Kilmarnock,” the boss continued.

“I’ve got absolutely no doubt he will prove over time to be an excellent player for Celtic and he’s really up for the challenge. I’m looking forward to seeing that development.”

It’s not just Rodgers’ words but also Lagerbielke’s early integration into the squad that underlines the manager’s faith. Despite joining the ranks just days ago, he was thrust into the thick of action against Kilmarnock, a challenging away game where his mettle was tested.

The void left by injuries to core players such as Cameron Carter-Vickers, Maik Nawrocki, and Stephen Welsh has suddenly propelled Lagerbielke into a pivotal role. He now stands as the Bhoys’ most senior and talented central defender, carrying not just the responsibility of the position but also the weight of expectations and pressure.

With pivotal fixtures looming over the horizon, Lagerbielke’s progression and performance will be closely scrutinised. But if initial impressions are anything to go by, Celtic may have found a player more than capable of walking into these fixtures.

The coming weeks will be crucial for both the player and the club. As the Hoops navigate the challenges on the pitch, Lagerbielke will be at the forefront, ensuring the defence remains solid, and helping to steer Celtic to greater heights.

Only time will tell if Lagerbielke truly rises to the occasion, but one thing is certain: he’s got the backing of Celtic, from the touchline to the terraces.
