MIKAEL LUSTIG has said he will head back to Sweden to play out his last remaining years in football, however, only when Celtic are 100% done with him.
The defender is in the last year of his deal and has spoken at length about getting a new one.
There have been little talks between Lustig’s reps and the club so far but the Swedish star told fans it will be a matter of weeks before he knows where he stands at Parkhead.
Lustig has revealed the ball is in Celtic’s court because they have a clause in the right back’s contract that allows them to extend his current deal by another year if they so wish.
Brendan Rodgers has been looking for a new right back for the summer; Lustig is getting on and he doesn’t fancy Gamboa or Ralston at this point.
The Celtic manager might be happy to keep Mikael in a supporting role past the summer but the Irishman will make sure Lustig is comfortable with that position before taking up the contract option.
