Major Sam Johnstone Celtic Update

Sam Johnstone is nearing a move to Celtic to compete with Viljami Sinisalo.

Johnstone is set to join on a season-long deal from Wolves after falling down the pecking order at the English Championship side.

Celtic have had a goalkeeper in their sights for much of the summer window, and the 33-year-old looks to be their choice.

The 33-year-old came through the Manchester United youth ranks and has since built a wealth of experience across the divisions down south, including at Aston Villa and Crystal Palace.

He has been capped four times for England, with his debut coming in 2021 while he was at West Brom.

Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph has provided a significant update on Johnstone’s imminent move to the Hoops, saying that the goalkeeper has arrived at Celtic’s training ground to complete the switch and that Celtic and Wolves have agreed a deal.

There are no reports about an option to buy, but the Celts are covering a significant portion of his wages.

It would see one area of the squad addressed ahead of the 5 pm deadline on Thursday, September 3.

Midfielder Joel van den Berg is due to follow in a deal worth up to £3.4 million, while Parma’s Oliver Sorensen is set to join on an initial season-long loan, with Celtic having an option to buy. The fee has yet to be disclosed.

Chelsea’s Shim Mheuka has completed a medical ahead of his loan switch to the Hoops and is due to be announced shortly.
