CHRIS SUTTON is wondering who signs the players at Celtic after Brendan Rodgers continually tells the media he takes nothing to do with that side of things.

In the Irishman’s post-match press conference after the Rosenborg game – he was asked about speculation surrounding Daniel Arzani, the young Australian Celtic are being heavily linked with and it gave Chris cause for concern.

He Wrote in his Daily Record Column: ‘Before the Rosenborg game, Rodgers said on the radio transfers were: “Not my job. I work with the players that are here, develop them, improve them, that is my job.”

‘That sounds like a coach speaking. Fair enough. A manager does not get involved in transfer dealings after identifying targets.

‘But when I then saw his post-match interview, his answer to another question on Arzani puzzled me too

‘Rodgers said: “I can’t tell you anything about him or anyone else.

“The club are working hard behind the scenes to try to get some signings in. I think he’s been one that has been identified.”

‘That perplexed me. I “think” he’s one that’s been identified?

‘That didn’t sound normal to me. I don’t know what to make of the fact he just “thinks” Arzani is a player that has been targeted.’

Brendan Rodgers came into the club and cleared house, brought his own staff in and his own head of recruitment. He will put a massive amount of trust in the hands of Lee Congerton who is yet to fully convince the Celtic fans of his credentials.

The Englishman is tasked by Rodgers to find young talent and help get deals done.

Brendan Rodgers will no doubt have the final yes or no on a player but maybe from what we’ve seen from a few deals such as Gamboa and Musonda – Rodgers brings players in on high recommendations then quickly finds they’re not going to fit well in his side.

  1. Brendan obviously means it’s Peter who handles the negotiations once he has identified the player just like Sutton’s big mate Lenny has said the same thing that the McGinn transfer is out of his hands so it perplexes me that he hasn’t bothered to mention the Hibs situation as well. Of course we know that Sutton has had ongoing sniping at the Celtic board due to his own acrimonious departure from the club.

  2. Stop bothering him about targets Mr Sutton. We have a budget and targets I am sure but “mouthing off” about your intentions inevitably leads to a sore face. Support the Club, support the board and believe they have everyone’s best interests at heart.

  3. Frankly Mr Rodgers does trust you Mr Sutton or any other members of the press so just likes to keep you all in the dark and feed you a lot of Sh@@@. A sensible approach for any manager.
