On-Loan Manchester City defender Jason Denayer continues to gain more admirers in a Celtic jersey with every game he plays.

The 19 year old was virtually unknown when Celtic announced that they had signed a Man City defender for the season, since then he’s made himself well known by defending well along side Virgil van Dijk, even getting among the goals.

Celtic have brought a lot of players in on-loan this season with an option to buy, it became clear pretty quickly as to why Man City didn’t offer us that kind of deal for the player.

He is solid, aware and he looks like a great long term replacement for Vincent Kompany at Manchester City, although Denayer admits himself that he’s uncomfortable with comparisons to the current Man City captain,

Playing first team football on a regular basis with Celtic and working alongside van Dijk will only continue to enhance the bhoys experience and knowledge of the game.

Both of our central defenders at the moment have the potential to go very far in the game and I’ve said a few times this season that in years to come we might be sitting round a pub table reminiscing about the time we had BOTH these guys in the heart of our defence.

Since joining up with Celtic Jason has received a call up to the Belgium national team. Not ready for his first cap yet but it would have given the player a massive boost being part of the set up.

It’s clear Jason isn’t here for the long term but this loan deal suits everyone involved. Maybe if he continues to impress we might get another year loan deal out of it but nothing permanent, that’s for sure!
