French side Nice have sacked their manager Patrick Viera after a horrible run and Europa League capitulation which ended in fans protesting and blocking the player’s bus.

Contrary to beliefs in the West of Scotland, protesting a management regime is nothing new and it serves to show how much discontent there is among the supporters who are the lifeblood of the club.

Nice had no room for sentiment as they sent the Arsenal legend packing from the role, realising there had to be change for the good of the team.

Celtic’s angle after Sunday’s protest was to double down on their stance and treat supporters like petulant kids in needing of a time out. Instead of addressing the issues inside the club, they went in on the fans. Let’s not forget it was a minority of the support on the night who took it too far and those numbers pale in comparison to the many supporters around the world absolutely scunnered by the way they have been treated by the club.

There’s no accountability and after blowing a two goal lead in the San Siro the club and the manager have been pushing a positive narrative in some Trumpian-esk spin like never before.

There has to be acknowledgement this season has gone badly wrong. To this point, Peter has expressed his disappointment but that’s about it. Nothing has changed and sadly it looks like it will take us losing more SPFL games before the board will react.

In not getting rid of Neil Lennon because of the protest, they have on a meta level allowed these fans to dictate the state of play. Refusing to make a change because of the high profile stance from fans is shockingly short sighted.
