Celtic winger Mikey Johnston bagged a brace off the bench in his side’s 3-0 Boxing Day win away at Dundee.

The Hoops were dominant throughout the victory which put them five points clear at the top of the cinch Premiership for Tuesday evening.

They had countless opportunities in the match and the argument that they should’ve scored more than three goals is valid. Despite this, the group were more than content with what they got.

The scorer of two of them, Johnston, spoke out post-match: “To get the win is amazing and to score a couple of goals is even better”, he said (Celtic FC on YouTube). “As I say, that’s what I’m striving for is more goals and assists so the more I can help the team the better.”

It would have been hugely pleasing for Johnston to contribute the way he did. The 24-year-old has had several opportunities all season, and he will be relieved to eventually have taken one.

Johnston is now firmly in contention for this weekend’s Glasgow derby. Luis Palma grabbed an assist today, but the Irishman’s brace undoubtedly overshadowed the Honduran winger’s contributions.

Brendan Rodgers has a noteworthy headache going into Saturday, and we will know what poison he has picked come 11.15 am.
