It’s never going to be in the cards, to be honest, but if he had it his way, Aiden McGeady would finish his career at Celtic after leaving the club all those years ago.

The former £10.8m winger [TransferMarkt] who left Glasgow for Russia eventually is now winding down in his career. At 34, he has been around the block and since leaving Spartak Moscow has found himself in England.

He had a good run of it with Sunderland under Jack Ross which has prompted many to ask if a move to Hibernian could be on the cards.

After his loan spell to Charlton last term, the winger still has one-year left on his Sunderland deal but he could be on the move this window.

Aiden has admitted he’s received a few texts about a possible Hibs move but Celtic is his first choice, speaking to GoRadio and cited by SunSport, the player said:

“I don’t know, it’s a hard one.

“There’s been a little bit of talk before in January about me possibly going to Hibs with Jack Ross.

“Obviously I’ve had a few messages about it and stuff. But honestly, I don’t know.

“Maybe if Lenny [Neil Lennon] gets in touch then I might, aye! But I don’t think that’s going to happen, I think that ship has sailed.

“My first choice would be Celtic but I think that time in my career has passed to be honest with you.

“I was 34 in April, I played in the Championship at the end of last season.

“It depends on how your body holds up but at my age just now I actually feel great.

“I’ve probably lost a little bit of speed but not to the extent where I’d say I’m slow.

“I honestly feel I could play another four or five years but whether someone employs you for that long is a different story.”

Most fans will have fond memories of Aiden but I don’t see there being a clamour for the former Irish international at this stage.
