NEIL LENNON has confirmed Ecuadorian wonderkid Jose Cifuentes is on Celtic’s radar – albeit a small blip at the moment.

Celtic have been linked with the player in recent weeks but until now the club and Neil were silent on a move for the defensive midfielder.

It’s likely agents have offered the player to clubs in the UK with Celtic now taking a closer look at the possibility of bringing the youngster into the club.

Jose has been receiving plaudits for his contributions to the Ecuadorian under 20 side at this summers World Cup.

Speaking about the player, the Celtic manager was cautious and while he admits they know of the player, it appears a deal is not remotely close.

“Again, it’s a player who we know very little about but one that has come up on the radar so that’s all I can say on that one.” Lennon told SunSport.

Celtic are looking for extra backup in that defensive midfield area. The bhoys can’t continue to rely on Scott Brown for over 50 games a season. Lennon must be clever about how he uses the Celtic captain going forward so he doesn’t get burnt out.

There’s a long way to go in the window and Celtic have more pressing matters with a right back.
