NEIL LENNON has tonight confirmed the club are close to landing French defender Christopher Jullien. Reports last night confirmed Celtic and Toulouse had agreed on a fee, and now the Irishman believes the club are close to getting this deal over the line.

Speaking after his side won 6-1 in their first pre-season friendly in Austria, the Celtic manager gave a very positive transfer update on the 26-year-old coming in.

“It’s close, yes. It’s a player that we’ve identified for a long time, even before my time here. Hopefully we can get that one over the line soon.” Neil told Sky Sports.

It’s very interesting the player has been tracked for some time which would suggest Brendan Rodgers and Lee Congerton had something to do with this transfer. Celtic are reportedly paying a large fee for the player’s signature, it won’t break the transfer record for the club set at £9million by Edouard last summer BUT it will run it very close.

Jullien would be a very welcome addition to the Celtic backline which have lost a lot of players over the summer. Boyata and Benkovic were first teams stars before leaving.
