NEIL LENNON and Celtic are getting set to experience something entirely new this month when VAR comes to town.

The Europa League will be using the technology from the last 32 onwards in the competition after previously not implementing it for the group stage.

The new system will be used in both legs and will see Celtic Park kitted out with all the necessary equipment to make the calls on the night.

VAR has been very controversial to this point, it has thrown up more grey areas than anything and sucked a lot of fun out of the game. A thread of hair offside and your goal won’t stand – with the spirit of the rule truly dead.

With that in mind, Neil Lennon confirmed to Celtic TV today he has held a meeting with both Willie Collum and Crawford Allan ahead of VAR being used at Celtic Park with both whistlers readying Lennon for what will be involved.

“We had a meeting with Crawford Allan and Willie Collum last week on the situation with VAR going into the Europa League.

“So that was all explained to us, it will be interesting to see how that pans out for the first time”

“I think there will be a monitor at the side of the pitch, so the referee will go and make a decision from that

“You can’t try and influence the referee on anything and you must be able to stay away from that

“Let the referee interpret what he sees as the best way and that’s the rules”

  1. Will there be a monitor in the local ludge, or will they brick it and trust these European refs who are not under their direct “control”.
