Celtic are counting the cost of playing on St Johnstone’s pitch on Sunday afternoon with two players now a doubt for Wednesday’s trio to Livingston.

Celtic managed a battling 1-0 victory on a day where the elements played their part.

The pitch was in a horrible condition for the Scottish Cup quarter-final tie and you could see the players were struggling to get to grips with it.

At some areas the ball was sticking and near the corners of the pitch you could have mistaken parts for a swamp.

This puts added strain on players legs and it appears James Forrest and Kristofer Ajer are feeling the after effects.

Speaking to BBC Sportsound after the cup victory Neil Lennon said:

“He’s (Forrest) got a bit of a dead leg but I think that he should be OK.

“Kris Ajer has got a bit of a thigh strain as well, the game took a lot out of us physically so we’ll see how they are in the next couple of days.

“We lost at the Toni Macaroni Stadium earlier in the season so we have to be right for that one.”

Celtic are closing in in their ninth successive title while being two cup games away from potentially winning a fourth treble in a row. Incredible to think this is even on the table!

The players must stay focused and Neil Lennon knows he’ll have to call on his full squad to get over the line.

  1. You can’t call that a pitch. It may be sited inside a football stadium, but it was a disgrace. My local landfill site has a better surface. I hope McCart is pleased with himself, after the supposed tackle where he injured wee Jamsie. The tackle was reckless and was a tackle that could have left Jamsie with a serious injury. He gets a YELLOW from ref Madden, who had a shocker of a day. He seemed happy to let rough tackling go, but inevitable it went too far. McCart went straight through Jamsie at right angles, and it should have been a RED.
The resultant free-kick went into the net. Thanks McCart, Celtic needed that, and your teammates should paste you for the challenge. It cost you big time.
BT can we please get rid of pundit Craigan, what a bore and the comments about fair play and hard challenges carry no weight. Craigan was the dirtiest player on Motherwell’s books, He hounded young players when he’d clubbed them, the anger in his face was a disgrace, old man Craigan should be binned.
Kevin Thompson is another lightweight pundit. He sits there lifeless, staring at the table, with little or no emotion about the game in question. Dull, Boring, whispers the reples, not interested, and gets paid for doing it???
