GORDON STRACHAN believes there’s nobody hurting more over Celtic’s season than Neil Lennon. The Irishman resigned from his position at the club this week after a woeful season which not many could have predicted.

The Celtic fans are hurting big time but former Celtic gaffer Gordon Strachan believes Neil is hurting the most and the horrible pressure he’s been under.

Gordon thinks it’s even tougher right now because under all that immense pressure there’s no getting away from things or taking your mind off it due to the current restrictions and lack of social interaction.

The Celtic fans wanted Neil gone in the end because he couldn’t motivate this team or organise them to be better. It was the same old failings all season and every time we looked for answers the manager was clear he didn’t know what else to do.

Sometimes things become stale at a club and what worked before doesn’t work any more. The players weren’t responding to his methods and the results have been a horror show.

Strachan says the Celtic fans are hurting for Neil at this point, some might be, but the dust hasn’t settled for many others. His demeanour in press conferences have been very poor and on several occasions, he tried to play down the Celtic fans fears and justified criticisms of this season. The dismissive nature of the Celtic manager rubbed so many people the wrong way.

“I don’t care what anybody feels like in the Celtic fanbase at this moment, nobody feels as bad as him.” Strahan told RecordSport.

“The Celtic fans – in general – could see he was hurting.

“Neil was hurt, he was definitely hurting, and it was hurting them to see Neil hurting.

“It was like a friend who was hurting.

“So I think there will be more about that in the coming days, about the Celtic fans seeing one of their heroes hurting.

“And they didn’t enjoy it, and they didn’t enjoy seeing somebody who had to come in front of the press and explain this, this, this.

“There cannot be a worse time to be a manager, or anybody – Boris (Johnson), (Matt) Hancock, Nicola Sturgeon – to get up and speak to people when the world isn’t great.

“There are these people trying to catch you out, and normally when this happens you can go and speak to friends, go and have a walk, have a beer with them or have a meal with them, take away the pressure.

“You cannot do that at the moment. Neil was having to deal with this and have to go home and sit, and poor Irene’s got to sit and watch him.

“It’s a horrible time to be in the public eye with people asking questions of you.”
