New Celtic signing Oliver Sorensen jumped at the chance to join after a phone call with his agent.
He only joined the Serie A side last summer following a £6.8 million move from Midtjylland. It was in Denmark he showcased his attacking threat, scoring 16 goals and registering 13 assists in 132 games.
Though he struggled to replicate that form for Parma last season, racking up a goal and an assist in 42 appearances.
Martin O’Neill handed Sorensen his debut just 24 hours after signing for the Hoops. He replaced goalscorer Benjamin Nygren after 63 minutes during Celtic’s 3-0 win over Aberdeen, and came close to a debut goal.
The 24-year-old is positive he can add to this side, saying he believes he’s a different profile than his midfield counterparts.
And he’s now revealed a chat with his agent that was brief, jumping at the chance to join Celtic after the club’s name was uttered. He said (RecordSport)
“I heard a few weeks ago that there was interest from Celtic. My agent called me and told me it was a possibility.
“Straight away, I told him, ‘Get this done…I want to go to Celtic’.
“It’s good that it happened.
“I hope to do my best this season, and hope to make the deal permanent if I play good enough. So yeah, 100 per cent, I want to stay.”
It’s always a good sign to hear how eager a player is to join the club, hungry to make a name for himself.
The Danish U21 star has been included in the Europa League squad and will be eyeing a start in the opening match against Ferencváros on September 17.
There’s still plenty of domestic action before then, though. Celtic are in action against St Mirren on Saturday night, before a midweek match at St Johnstone on September 9. They then face a trip to Ibrox in the League Cup quarter-final.
O’Neill will look to his whole squad during the coming weeks, hoping they can all play their part. Sorensen has already stepped on to the pitch in the green and white; hopefully it’s the first of many as he looks to make a lasting impression beyond this season.
