On-loan Celtic central defender Jack Hendry has admitted his relief at finally getting back playing regular football after months of hell with injury.

The 25-year made his return after nine months, due to a mix of injury and football being stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic, this weekend for Oostende. His return was even topped off with a ‘dream’ late winner, as he led the side to a 1-0 victory over KV Mechelen.

As reported by the Daily Record, Hendry spoke honestly on how glad he was to finally be back and about a debut that couldn’t have gone any better for him.

“It was my first game for nine months. I was out for four weeks after my knee operation and then football obviously stopped. So I had a lot of difficult months.

“To score the winning goal in injury time was a dream for me. It couldn’t have gone better. I knew I would get a chance during the game and I managed to finish it.”

Hendry, who was once a product of the Celtic academy, joined once again in the 2018 January window from fellow Scottish Premiership side, Dundee.

Early on, there was increased pressure placed on Hendry, with injuries to other central defenders forcing former manager Brendan Rodgers, to play him more than he may have wanted to at the start of his Celtic career.

It is fair to say his career in Glasgow hasn’t really worked out since, with this now being his second loan spell away under Lennon. The first of which, in Australia with Melbourne Victory, was forced to be cut short due to a long-term injury.

He seems to have started life off well in Belgium. Hopefully he can keep that up and build his career and confidence up again, after a tough few years.
