There was a lot of talk about Celtic potentially signing Joshua King when Eddie Howe was expected to take over as Hoops boss. [RecordSport]

The pair had worked together at Bournemouth and King became a free agent in the summer.

Once the Howe deal fell apart, King’s name was dropped from the Celtic rumour mill and since then the club have been linked with many Australian players – for obvious reasons.

However, if Celtic ever had a desire to bring in Joshua, I believe they should revisit this potential deal.

Celtic are in need of a more attacking purpose and King is experienced and hungry for success. His wages would be the obvious stumbling block but a larger signing on fee due to the fact he’s available for nothing could be enough to tempt the frontman to Glasgow.

The 29-year-old didn’t get a chance at Everton last season under Carlo Ancelotti and will be looking to go somewhere where he can get first team football.

Celtic could be the place for King to really shine.

The Norweigan has played 172 times in the Premier League; scoring 48 goals and making 15 assists in a side that is usually more defensive and pinned back.

Transfermarkt have the value of the player still sitting at £7.2m. Celtic could get a season out of King and move him on for cash if they wanted.

It’s worth exploring and could be a great option for Ange Postecoglou. We’ve been looking at younger players but having a first team ready signing in the door who can hit the ground running would be beneficial.
