Celtic’s rehab under John Kennedy has been slow but steady and proves one thing; Neil Lennon should have been relieved of his duties a long time before he eventually left the building. Watching Celtic hit their best performance of the season against Livingston only furthers that argument.

It was clear from early on in the season, the players were not responding to a manager who called them out after a Champions League exit.

Lennon, known for his motivational skills was left at sea this season. I was banging the drum for months – if the manager’s biggest asset is motivational skills, their effectiveness in an empty stadium era is almost non-existent.

You can get so far on talent and raw emotion in the heat of battle when there are fans inside the stadium. But even then, games like Rosenborg last season proved our lack of guidance on the field would ultimately result in disappointing defeats.

There’s no doubt in my mind, John Kennedy has more about him when it comes to tactics and organising a team.

Could he have organised Celtic after the first Ross County defeat and steady the ship before it completely hit the rocks? I think so. Just one man’s opinion but the dithering of our board saw us sink in January when they could have changed course.

It’s pretty much in the books now.

For me, I’d like to see John help lift the Scottish Cup and ride off into the sunset for now.

  1. Lennon should have been offski months ago, would have given us some chance. Would JK have made it better? I think anyone would have tbh. But its too early yet to hail JK. This Celtic team have struggled in to win every ‘big’ game this season
