PETER LAWWELL won’t be seeing many positives about this year in terms of business, however, NOT having to sit in front of a room of Celtic shareholders holding his feet to the fire has to be one of the only perks of his 9-5.

Usually, this time of year, the function suite at Celtic Park is packed out with supporters with shares in the club and who gets the floor on the day to talk to the board.

This time around, there will be no packed suite and the board will deliver their AGM on live webcast to its shareholders.

Neil Lennon is also in attendance to answer questions about the playing side of things.

Celtic wrote to shareholders:

“Due to current Covid-19 situation, including the related social distancing requirements, and under the published health guidelines issued by both the UK and Scottish Governments, the AGM will be held on a ‘closed’ basis.

“Shareholders will therefore not be permitted to attend in person and anyone who seeks to attend in person will not be permitted to do so on the grounds of public safety.

“As Shareholders will not be able to attend in person, they are strongly encouraged to vote on all resolutions by completing a proxy appointment form.”

Shareholders are invited to submit to the board any questions they would otherwise have raised at the AGM in advance of the meeting, via e-mail to AGM2020@celticfc.net by no later than 6pm on 10 December 2020.”

The line in bold is the kicker; Celtic will be screening questions this year and have the opportunity to nix anything they don’t feel is appropriate or necessary. While this could be the case for some, it’s not their place to decide what should and shouldn’t be answered.

The controversial resolution 12 is brought up every year but squatted away by the board. You can read more about the motion tabled by the Celtic shareholders back in 2013 here.

Day to day issues will be under scrutiny and the Celtic FC season ticket at full price without much added value looks like it could be a hot topic if Celtic allow questions on the matter.
