Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou has refused to rule out the possibility of a timely return to Glasgow for Hoops duo Daizen Maeda and Tom Rogic.

Currently, both players are away with their international sides, Japan and Australia, which has led to the first-team players missing two key fixtures against Hearts and Dundee United over the past week.

It also looked like they would be set to miss Wednesday’s Glasgow derby fixture against Rangers. However, Postecoglou has refused to rule out the possibility of either player being available for the crunch tie at Parkhead.

“Well, I think they get back on the day of the game, irrespective of my desire to find a supersonic vehicle to get them here in record time,” he said, speaking to BBC Radio Scotland.

“A lot of it will actually depend on whether they play or not. If they play the day before, it’s impossible for them to play on the night against Rangers. But if they’re not involved, there’s an opportunity to get them back.

“We’ll look at that later in the week.”

Although it is probably unlikely that either Maeda or Rogic will start the game next week, it would come as a huge positive to the Celtic manager even having them available off the bench.

Logistically, it sounds like there is potentially a good chance of both players making it back in time, so fingers crossed they will be available for selection on the night.

The eyes of the Celtic support will be all over Japan and Australia’s fixtures this coming Tuesday, keeping an eye on the status of the two players and the part they have to play in the game for their nations.
