Broadcaster Premier Sports has become a more apparent part of Scottish football in recent times and it’s about to undergo a new look.

It has been revealed that Viaplay have received clear to acquire Premier Sports and the new channel will launch in the UK at the beginning of November [@martingrantross].

The package which includes sport is likely to increase to a cost of £14.99 per month with Premier Sports 1 & 2 becoming Viaplay 1 & 2.

If you can’t manage along to the football for whatever reason the cost of television packages is scandalous.

To currently watch Celtic compete in four competitions you must have tv subscriptions to Sky Sports (SPFL Premiership), BT Sports (Champions League) and Premier Sports soon to be Viaplay (League Cup and Scottish Cup).

It is a lot of money to fork out each month and is set to rise even further with the additional costs of Viaplay.

The League Cup in Scotland is also now likely to get a rebrand with it currently being known as the Premier Sports Cup.

This adds an extra bit of steel to the argument against the new deal with Sky which was recently signed as another example of a streaming service who will likely want to increase their rights.
