ANDY WALKER believes Celtic will bring in a striker in January after the Giakoumakis story came out of the blue during the World Cup break.

The rumour mill claims Giakoumkais is open to a Celtic exit after talks on an improved deal stalled. Walker speculates frustration on the Greek striker’s part because he’s playing second fiddle to Kyogo in the Celtic striker hierarchy.

As the January window gets set to open, the former Celtic player reveals Celtic will be looking to bring in a striker and believes they’ll manage it.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football Show, Walker said, “I think they can get one. And I think that’s what Celtic will be looking to do.

“I’ve got to say this has come out of the blue – Giakoumakis not being happy.

“I don’t know whether it’s a family issue but he signed a long-term contract not so long ago.

“So if he does want to go and there is a club interested in him, Celtic will I assume will get money to replace him.

“They will always have targets in mind.

I thought he was terrific [last season]. Arguably, who is better? Giakoumakis for a regular burst of goals or Kyogo.

“I mean Kyogo has been magnificent. I think Giakoumakis is every bit as good as him.

“I can understand his frustration as he hasn’t started as many, but when he has, I mean he comes off the bench against Rangers when Kyogo got injured after a couple of minutes and he was terrific.”

Ange has already snapped up two players ahead of the January window. The Australian liked to be prepared, but he and Celtic can be nimble during the month of January if need be.

Last season, Ange was keen on bringing in Riley McGree to complete his business for the month when the Australian midfielder pulled out. Within days, Matt O’Riley was signed for the club. We expect the club to look to add to their squad as well as sell a few of their players in the coming month.
