Reo Hatate Future Key to Celtic Transfer Plans

Reo Hatate reportedly still wants to leave Celtic before the transfer window closes, with the midfielder keen on a move to one of Europe’s top five leagues.

Journalist Scott Burns provided an update on the Japan international while speaking on Hotline Live about Celtic’s transfer plans following their Champions League exit.

Hatate has been linked with a move away from the Hoops for some time, but no suitable offer has yet arrived.

Burns said: “It also depends if they can sell players before then as well because Reo Hatate, everyone knows, wants to leave.”

He added: “A bid needs to come in for him at a suitable level.”

Hatate is said to have made his preference clear when it comes to the next step in his career.

Burns said: “For him, he wants to go to a top five league, so Celtic could still sell players and still invest in this window.”

That leaves Celtic in a tough position, with the Hoops needing to find a club for the Japanese playmaker before adding a new midfielder.

The Hoops are reportedly not expected to move Hatate on unless an acceptable offer arrives, while he is looking for the right opportunity rather than leaving Celtic at the first opportunity.

Celtic’s own transfer plans could also be influenced by any late sale.

Burns continued: “They’ve got funds in the bank. They shouldn’t need to sell first of all anyway, but obviously the Champions League is massive for them in terms of boosting the finances and they’ve not got that now.”

Celtic’s Champions League exit to LASK has changed the picture regarding which players they will look to sign and how much they will spend heading into the final days of the window, but Hatate’s situation appears linked to that.

Hatate wants to leave, but Celtic will still need an offer they deem suitable before any move can happen.
