Celtic have been linked with a move for Ben Davies in recent times but the club aren’t treating it as a priority because they have all their centre-back positions filled at the moment.

However, the player is entering the last six-months of his Preston deal in January – Celtic would be keen to snap him up on a pre-contract ready for next season.

SunSport have claimed right now, waiting for Celtic and signing a deal in January appears to be the most likely scenario for Davies.

The report reads:

“As for incomings on the south coast, Tindall is keen on Preston’s Ben Davies who is out of contract next summer.

“But SunSport understands the centre-back, 25, is more likely to sign a pre-contract agreement with Celtic in January.”

Celtic have brought in Shane Duffy this summer and now have the Irishman alongside Kristoffer Ajer and Christopher Jullien. Any need for a defender can be held off until January, unless Ajer is subject to a fairly large bid before the end of the window.

Would Celtic expedite the process under those circumstances? If Ajer was to be sold it would be for a decent transfer fee, so there would be money to spend.
