It’s being reported on Wednesday evening that Celtic will look to sell Gorgios Giakoumakis in the January transfer window if they can’t come to an agreement over a new deal.

Two very well placed sources in Scott Burns and Duncan Castles have reported Giakoumakis is unhappy with his current Celtic deal and is looking for a significant pay rise to his long term deal. The striker’s contract isn’t up until 2026, but Giakoumakis was said to be under the impression he would be given a wage hike if his first season at Celtic Park was successful.

RecordSport reports that both Burns and Castles have been told the player and the club have failed to reach an agreement over the new terms of a deal and January could now be the jumping off point for both parties.

Giakoumakis has been a brilliant player for Celtic. Especially in the second half of last season once he was fit. No sooner had the Giakoumakis story drop, SunSport were tipped off on a striker Celtic are looking to bring in. The bhoys are in the hunt for South Korean World Cup striker Cho Gue-sung.

Ange has spoken a few times about the need to move certain fan favourites on to help this team progress. If the manager feels he needs to move any of the players on for whatever reason, then the fans have to trust his judgment. We saw during the botched ten in a row covid season the harm it can do to see players stay beyond when they’re truly happy at the club.

No Celtic fan will want to see the big Greek go out the door in January and will hope there’s less to this story. The instinctive goal mouth striker is a huge reason why Celtic are nine points clear currently in the title race.
