It is being reported tonight that head of operations Nicky Hammond is set to bring in Gary Penrice as the clubs new chief scout, according to SunSport.

While the shutdown is in place, things are still going on behind the scenes to make sure Celtic are ready when football does finally come back.

Hammond wasn’t brought in as a chief scout in the summer but was handed a bigger role as head of operations after his initial summer trial period. This means Hammond has been in the background for the last 8 months trying to sort out the mess left behind by Lee Congerton. The scouting system was in a mess after the former Celtic scout left to join Brendan Rodgers.

If reports are true and Penrice is set to join the club, it shows an important shift behind the scenes as Hammond looks to make his mark on the playing staff.

Penrice, 56, has worked with Leicester, Stoke and Everton in various roles over the years and was recently working at Loftus Road with QPR.
