Just over a week ago Celtic and Arsenal were ten million pounds apart in their valuations of Kieran Tierney. Arsenal offered 15 million, Celtic are adamant they want 25.

It was reported midweek that an improved 17.5million pound from the London club had been once again scoffed at by Celtic. Reports this morning are suggesting that Arsenal have bit the bullet and met Celtic’s asking price for their prized possession.

The Sunday Business Post has reported that The Gunners are ready to stop their pointless dance around the player’s value and stump up the funds. According to the report, the London clubs latest bid should be around £20m plus £5m in add-ons.

Tierney was sent back to Scotland yesterday by Neil Lennon, the manager stating the young left-back had been sent home to work on his rehab after surgery. With reports of a new and improved offer coinciding with the player returning from Austria, tounges will be sure to wagger or is it all just a coincidence?

  1. Just a thought, but maybe if there was a Nordic league or something that could rival the EPL that Celtic could participate in then with an increased revenue we could hold on to our star players.
Then they could stay at the cub and realise there full potential.

  2. So 95% of my brain is in denial, thinking our young star is happy here, he still has a great future here, and we dont even need the money. Nobody wants Tierney to go, and we love him with all our hearts.
The other pragmatic 5% of my brain sees the sense in realising the full asset value of a player if the end result is going to be the same, i.e. cash in to the max .

However the point remains, “what’s the clubs ambition?”. Is it simply to beast on to 10-in-a-row, or is it also to become competitive in Champs League Group Stages? If the latter, then the sale of Tierney is both not required, and adds the risk of sufficiently diminishing the squad strength so as not to even reach the group stages. Why gamble your future cashflow on money you’ll get from selling your prize assets, as opposed to future proofing that cash by retaining the assets and improving the likelihood of success? Especially if there’s no panic to sell?
    Just a thought.

    • I guess KT has been sworn to silence over this. Does he want to leave a mere two seasons from immortality or is this Lawwell’s business to pay for the summer buys? I think the latter. False progress i think. Celtic could end up two forward / three back playing that game!

  3. It’ll be a disgrace if Lawwell sells KT for less than 30 mil. He will be worth double that in 18 months down there. Does every EPL team not get over 100 mil just to be there every season? Arsenal pleading poverty? That’ll be right! Anyone but Arsenal. if there was only three teams in that league, Arsenal would still finish fourth.

  4. From now on Celtic will not be able to buy any player of note for anything less than 7 million such is the way the money is payable in the EPL, but Celtic should take it on board that class players can’t. Be sold cheap from Scotland, Scotland should demand its share of wealth, if its stated we are better off. All Together in the uk
