Former Celtic hero Simon Donnelly spoke to Sky Sports this morning on who he thinks should be the next Celtic manager.

The sports broadcaster is just catching up with Celtic fan media from last week and has been touting the Roy Keane Nicky Butt link which was all the talk on social media on Thursday.

Since then, chat of Roy Keane taking over has died down but it hasn’t gone away completely.

Simon was asked about his preference and if a Roy Keane appointment would do anything for him, the former midfielder was enthused:

“I’ve did podcasts the last three or four weeks speculating who is going to come into Celtic.” Simon told sky sports as cited by the DAILY RECORD.

“For me, Roy Keane excites me. I think people have their doubts about Roy Keane but I think he is a winner.

“I think coming in to Celtic to go head-to-head with Steven Gerrard is something that would excite everybody. That’s an interesting one.

“With Nicky Butt coming alongside him, I’d be happy with that.”

Roy Keane has certainly not been at the top of many supporters lists to this point. However, his links with Dermot and the club keep him in the hunt for now.

It could just be wishful thinking by some who would like to see Keane vs Gerrard played out on the Glasgow stage.

There’s more fans behind a new and progressive choice rather than Keane coming into the club. There’s no doubt it would be unpredictable of Roy did get the job and his outward demeanour could both delight and infuriate in equal measure.
