Speculation over a return for Ryan Christie to Celtic has been put to bed. The midfielder’s contract at Bournemouth was due to expire next summer, meaning he would have been available on a free transfer by the beginning of January. TeamTalk touted a potential return last month.

On Friday morning, though, it was announced that the Scotland internationalist had signed a new deal with the Cherries that lasts until 2027. This ended any speculation about a move back to Glasgow.

Christie certainly split opinion among the Hoops faithful, and when a potential return was mentioned, it got supporters talking. That will not be happening, though, and it is fair to say the Celts have sufficient midfield depth nonetheless.

Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley, Paulo Bernardo, Odin Holm, and David Turnbull are all viable picks for Brendan Rodgers. He may look to improve quantity over quality, but Christie certainly won’t be someone who comes through the door.
