SCOTT BROWN has revealed he was told to stop putting any focus on coaching or management by Brendan Rodgers when he first came to the club.

The Celtic captain is keen to stay in the game beyond his playing career and has been doing coaching badges in his off time but it was Brendan who came in and knocked it on the head, Brown explained.

He confirmed the former Celtic manager stressed the importance to give everything as a player and there would be plenty of time to look at the other side of the game.

Brown was at a coaching course this summer during his post-season break when international games were going on. Speaking to SunSport he revealed he managed a short break with the family.

“I got about 12 days away as I had the coaching course. I started down that path four or five years ago and was working with the Under-20s.

“When Brendan Rodgers came in he knocked that on the head because he wanted me to focus on football.

“He said there would be loads of time to do what I wanted at the end of my career.

“He was always good that way and that’s how it will be now. I want to play as long as I can.

“I’ve got two seasons left and we’ll see where we go from there, whether I want to go in to coaching or keep playing.”

Brown has two years left of his Celtic deal he signed at the back end of last season. The midfielder looked as if he would be heading out the door this summer with a move to Australia on the cards but he had a change of heart late in the deal.
