Celtic’s defence is going to need massive surgery come the summer.

The turnover of players in the backline will be nothing like we’ve seen in the last decade. Three loan bhoys heading back to their parent clubs; Shane Duffy, Diego Laxalt and Jonjoe Kenny.

For Celtic, when they do get a manager, it’s all about finding the balance in the players who come in. We have been advocating Celtic picking up some bargain buys and the best of the rest in the SPFL to help supplement the squad.

Bringing too many players into the squad from outside the league will create problems, it’s vital the balance is there.

GiveMeSport is reporting the club have still got Declan Gallagher on their radar and they would see him as a Shane Duffy replacement.

What that says to me is they want a no-nonsense defender but someone who will likely not start every week. The former Celtic academy player will most likely go to the Euros with Scotland but will be available on a free to any club before or after the competition. Will Celtic jump the queue?

It hasn’t worked out for Shane at the club and he will head back to Brighton to figure out what’s next for himself.
