Neil Lennon and Celtic are very keen on bringing Shane Duffy in on loan this transfer window, but the money involved with other interested parties means it’s going to take a lot to try and persuade Brighton to let the Irishman make the move to Glasgow.

Shane is exactly the type of centre back Neil Lennon wants in before the window closes at the start of October; a no-nonsense, physical presence at the heart of the defence. It would give Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer the freedom and licence to get the ball on the deck and build from the back.

RecordSport have revealed Celtic have spoken to Brighton and Shane Duffy about the move and a source close to the deal has told the newspaper, Duffy has made it abundantly clear he’s a massive Celtic fan and wants the move.

The Source said: “Shane has made it clear that he’s a massive Celtic supporter and that could make all the difference in terms of his decision. If he did choose Celtic then it would be more of a romantic notion rather than a financial decision.

“Celtic are certainly part of the conversation but there is also a realisation that this will be a very difficult deal to do because it’s impossible to compete with the wages on offer in the English Premier League.”

Duffy would have to be the one to make it clear he wasn’t planning on going anywhere else but Celtic, and even then, the club could dig in if the player appears to be stubborn.

It will be interesting to see if this one can get over the line. Celtic might be criticised for not getting deals done quickly but in this case they must be patient.
