James Forrest is a doubt for the Glasgow Derby on Sunday. The winger has been struggling with injuries for the past two years and seems unable to keep a sustained period of fitness to make his mark on Ange Postecoglou’s side.

James has always been given a rough ride by a certain section of the Celtic support but his accolades and contributions are there for all to be seen.

More often than not, players who are in the wide positions see their contributions diminish as they get older in a sharper decline than in other positions.

The 30-year-old is struggling to stay fit and Liel Abada is our number one right-winger, the player is also coming into the final year of his contract next season. Will James be offered an opportunity to stay and more to the point, will Celtic and Ange offer the midfielder a deal he would accept considering his place in the team isn’t what it used to be?

Celtic have handed contracts to players before out of loyalty, but if they aren’t going to have a meaningful contribution then there has to be a level of pragmatism.

I’d love to see Forrest shake off his injury woes and have a big say in the final stretch of the season. However, the jury is out on if he can keep up with Ange Ball.
