CHARLIE NICHOLAS says it pains him greatly to see how far Celtic have fallen and the way the Celtic board have handled everything up until this point. It was a rather surprising admission since the Sky Sports man rarely lets you know how he’s feeling when it comes to his old club unless it’s to have a go.

Celtic’s interim results yesterday and as we expected the club made a loss due to the ongoing pandemic, however, in operational highlights which is a space reserved for positive things, the club actually put second place in the SPFL, like it was something to brag about.

Is it an insight into what they really think this season? It just so happens second place will get a shot at the Champions League next season. Is that seen as a win or an ‘operational highlight’?

Celtic made a loss but it wasn’t catastrophic, the next report will at least have Jeremie Frimpong’s transfer cash added to the balance sheet to alleviate some of our financial burdens during the crisis.

Nicholas believes the board have got this season so horribly wrong when it came to onfield matters and the way they’ve treated the support.

Writing in his Daily Express column as cited by SunSport, the former Celtic player said:

“Celtic’s response to their latest financial results reads like the board are trying to pat themselves on the back by claiming they have done quite well through this pandemic.

“The club’s six-monthly figures leaves them with major losses on and off the park and with very little credit amongst their fan base.

“They also failed to address any of the major issues at the club, such as the manager’s situation or plans for the future.

“The fans will be furious that the club have failed to reveal anything from their so-called review.

“They will soon be asked to come up with the money for season ticket renewals.

“They will dig deep, maybe not to the same levels as this season, but they will back their club.

“But where is the hope? The board seem to be handling everything wrong and the whole situation has become a sad case.

“Amongst the highlights stated by the club was the fact that the team are second in the league – they were basically suggesting it could have been worse and that Celtic could have been third!

“It pains me greatly how they have collapsed so dramatically.”

The club will finish second this season, with a big enough points gap between them and top spot. It’s time to face reality and at this point, there are no hasty decisions to be made – only obvious decisions.
