No Celtic fan will lose sleep over this transfer but it signals the start of a squad clear-out under Ronny Deila. Something he has spoke about since the back end of last season.

He wants to bring his squad size down and in turn free up wages for the players he wants and it’s quality not quantity he is looking for.

The first proper casualty of the managers new philosophy is Teemu Pukki who was loaned out Brøndby last season when Ronny first came in. Since then Teemu spoke out several times about wanting to stay at his loan club and he’s got his wish.

It may have not been the £1.3million buy out clause in his loan agreement but getting money for Teemu Pukki considering he never really done anything at Celtic is not bad at all. The fee agreed between Celtic and Brøndby is reported to be around the 500k mark.

This will surely go into the pot for player re-investment as Ronny looks to build a Champions League worthy team. He has the foundations but he knows we will need more if we are not only to get to the part but hold our own once we’re there.

Teemu Pukki was signed by Neil Lennon as a replacement for Gary Hooper but he never hit the goal trail in any meaningful way. The bhoy had a lot of dig and you couldn’t fault him for effort. However it was clear he Celtic had signed another striker who struggles with goals and he quickly fell out of favour at the club.

We wish him all the best at Brøndby
