SUNDERLAND manager Jack Ross has shed some light on why Lewis Morgan missed Sunderland’s last game of the season where the Black Cats compounded their capitulation with another defeat.

The club were chasing automatic promotion but fell apart right at the end of the season – only winning one game in their last seven.

Lewis was absent from the squad during their defeat to Southend at the weekend with no explanation before the game. However, Ross revealed after their defeat the Celtic loan star has a concussion which he picked up in training.

“Lewis suffered concussion in training otherwise he would have been involved today, but he will be back training in the next couple of days once protocol is followed.” Ross told Chronicle Live.

Morgan has had an up and down season at the club but many Sunderland fans would love to keep him beyond this season. The Black Cats will now be in the playoffs as they attempt to get back into the Championship.

The first leg of their semi-final takes place against Portsmouth next week.
