The latest blow in the Champions League, this time dealt by Lazio, has only deepened the wounds for Celtic and particularly for Greg Taylor, who was very vocal while reflecting on the match.

Taylor, weary of reiterating the lessons Celtic must glean from their European endeavours, finds himself in a repetitive loop.

While the team showcased their might against Lazio, matching them stride for stride, the elusive victory once again slipped through their fingers.

Out of the two teams on the pitch, Celtic probably deserved the win more.

The evening’s drama heightened when a late goal by Luis Palma, which looked to have sealed the deal for Celtic, was overturned by VAR. To add insult to injury, former Barcelona and Chelsea player, Pedro, secured Lazio’s win late in injury time.

Reflecting on last year’s challenging campaign under Ange Postecoglou, Taylor recalls how the team was often lauded for their efforts, but the tangible reward of points remained out of grasp. [Football Scotland]

“With 10 minutes to go the other night, it felt like we had a good chance to win. I hate speaking about what ifs. But that’s how it feels again.

“The size of this club deserves more to be coming close. We want to be actually producing at this level. The first two group games have shown we can do that. But talk is cheap now.

“The Champions League is totally ruthless. Lazio didn’t have many chances, we gave them very little. But they took the ones that came at the big moments.

“We talked last year about learning from our experience. And I honestly think we have. That’s why we’re competing much better than we did then. We’re closer. But we need to show we can make that next step.

“It’s those big moments, they’re what make the difference. At 1-1 against Lazio, that’s the worst we should be walking away with.

“At 95 minutes, we need to be realising the position of the game. Of course, we want to win it. But we definitely can’t lose it. So to do so is slack on our part.”
