CELTIC are actively working on deals at the moment and need to bring reinforcements in for defence with the squad very thin on the ground at the back.

The club have been linked with a plethora of talent over the past month with the media, agents and even fans second guessing who Celtic are trying to bring into Celtic Park.

With International duty over and with Celtic back in training, we are very surprised nothing more has been said about a Fillip Benkovic return.

At the end of the season, both Brendan Rodgers and Filip Benkovic both spoke about a potential Celtic return for the Croatian.

“Filip’s situation is one I’ll certainly look at. But there’s no doubt that if I want him to go out on loan again, I’d want him to go to Celtic.” Rodgers told RecordSport.

Filip Benkovic also confirmed that Neil Lennon had spoken to him and wanted the player to stay beyond the treble treble season.

“I have spoken to Neil Lennon. He told me that he would like me to stay at Celtic for another season. Benkovic confirmed to RecordSport.

“I must admit, when I first signed for Celtic, I didn’t expect it to be as good as it has been.

“During my time at Celtic, I have gained great experience. The Scottish Premiership is extremely intense and it was great playing in Europe. It’s helped me a lot.”

It has been just over a month since these comments and Celtic aren’t any further forward with bringing in a centre back and the trail has gone cold on Benkovic.

Leicester have not returned for preseason yet, a decision could be more likely once Brendan Rodgers assesses his squad and finds out what players he can bring in himself.

Celtic don’t have time on their side with regards to transfers. If Benkovic does come back up for another season it could be mid-August with the English window closing before the first Premier League game of the season. At that time, English clubs can no longer buy players but they can sell and loan players out to other leagues.
