BRENDAN RODGERS has made it clear he’s still eyeing a trio of signings with only six days left of the transfer window.
The Irishman previously said he wants a replacement for Stuart Armstrong, Patrick Roberts as well as one more addition.
He has replaced Roberts with Arzani although he is more a work in progress leaving him wanting two additions, however, with the likelihood of Boyata leaving in this window the Celtic manager knows he needs three in if he is to be totally happy with his squad.
Asked if this was the priority at the Celtic Park press conference, the manager nodded.
“Absolutely. There’s no change.” admitted Rodgers.
“I’ve been pretty clear, since the end of last season, what we need.
“You need to replace what you lose in order to keep that strength and competition.
“It’s no coincidence that James Forrest was very good with Patrick Roberts breathing down his neck. And vice-versa.
“The midfield players knew if they weren’t quite doing it, someone could come in, come on and do well.”
It’s going to be a busy week for Celtic if that’s the case. The bhoys have Hamilton on Sunday, then Rodgers must prepare his side for the visit of Suduva on Thursday evening followed by the first SPFL Glasgow Derby of the season.
It’s unlikely anyone Celtic bring in before the window will play any part in the Glasgow Derby next week with Rodgers reluctant to throw new signings straight into the fold.
This means Celtic will have to make do with what’s available right now when they take on Steven Gerrard’s men.
Well Brendan, if you have been pretty clear what you needed for ages either you are asking for players who cost too much, don’t want to come or the board is not playing game. I do think all three come into play here. I really don’t blame any player for not wanting to come to Scottish Football particularly when they can get bigger salaries elsewhere and more important are not displaying their talents in Brechin, Elgin and Berwick on bitterly cold Saturday or Sunday afternoons. Oh my apologies to those clubs as you were the ones that came into my head. There are lots more.
Seems to be the same old story every season – Celtic with money getting nobody and and trying to get through to the CL with what we have (this year showing why that does not work) and across town at the flea pit Rangers buying and getting on loan every man and his dog whilst hoping they can change their financial luck by finding a golden ticket in a Wonka bar !
It is time to bring in some new faces not any more young lads some good pros and get all that rotten dead wood out then we will move forward as one start now and bring in the three players before window shuts it is easy for SG to bring in new faces in a few days that is all it takes but us we need months its a joke at the time it takes us to sign any one.
Gummage
And this is a vastly superior strategy than the Celtic board have come up with.
