There was a cathartic clearing of the throat on Wednesday night as the bhoys got back down to SPFL business after a LONG winter break. The hyperbole surrounding Celtic’s defeat at Ibrox was the much discussed topic during the time off.

Many speculating that Celtic were on their knees and this was a signal of intent from the boys in blue. In reality, Steven Gerrard’s men had an excellent game against a Celtic side lacking in three of their top stars (Edouard, Tierney, Rogic) along with losing two defenders to injury on the day which ruined Brendan Rodgers ability to change the game. Celtic had a bloody nose, but it was not broken!

Fast forward to Wednesday night and while the pretenders to the throne huffed and puffed with two ‘marquee’ signings in Defoe and Davis – aye, maybe ten years ago, Celtic’s new signings were doing the business.

The bhoys ran out 4-0 winners against St Mirren with 3 of the four goals coming from the new guys. Defoe got his goal at Rugby Park before the walls came in on their night.

The final goal of the night at Celtic Park came from Timothy Weah with young Ewan Henderson providing a fantastic assist.

At the age of 36, Jermain Defoe is getting on a bit for sure, and if you had any doubt, then this humiliating stat backs it up. The combined ages of provider Ewan Henderson and goalscorer Timo Weah just fall short of being older than Jermain Defoe!

The Dad’s army approach to their transfer window has been lauded while Celtic’s ‘untried’ and ‘untested’ youngsters ran a mock. Go figure.
